AirTrunk and ib vogt Sign First Data Centre Renewable Energy Agreement in Malaysia
On February 7, 2024, in Malaysia, AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center specialist, and ib vogt, a renewable energy developer, signed the first data center renewable energy Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP). The CGPP, an initiative from Malaysia's Energy Commission, allows businesses to participate in renewable energy projects in the country. AirTrunk will procure renewable energy from the 29.99MW solar farm that ib vogt is developing under the CGPP, with construction set to begin in mid-2024. This agreement follows AirTrunk's previous renewable energy agreements in Hong Kong and Australia. The company is also developing a 150MW AirTrunk JHB1 data center in Malaysia as part of its commitment to achieving Net Zero and decarbonizing the Asia-Pacific & Japan region's electricity grid.
