Equinix Partners with GIC and CPP Investments to Accelerate xScale Data Center Portfolio Expansion
Equinix, Inc., a global digital infrastructure company, announced on October 1, 2024, that it has signed a joint venture agreement with GIC and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments). The partnership aims to raise over $15 billion in capital to accelerate the expansion of the Equinix xScale data center portfolio. These data centers allow hyperscale companies to add core deployments to their existing access point footprints at Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers. The joint venture plans to purchase land and build new xScale facilities on multiple greater-than-100-megawatt (MW) campuses in the U.S., eventually adding more than 1.5 gigawatts of new capacity for hyperscale customers. The closing of the joint venture is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2024.
