Microsoft Partners with ESB to Power Dublin Data Centre with Green Hydrogen
On September 27, 2024, Microsoft announced a partnership with ESB to power its data centre control and administration building in Dublin with green hydrogen power. This pilot project, the first of its kind in Europe, will supply up to 250kW of clean energy to Microsoft’s Dublin campus over an eight-week period using ESB’s zero-emission Hydrogen Fuel Cells. This initiative is part of a series planned by ESB in 2024 and 2025 to demonstrate the versatility of hydrogen fuel cell technology. The project aims to show the potential impact of hydrogen energy in helping to decarbonise the data centre sector in Ireland. This aligns with Microsoft's 2020 goals to be a carbon-negative, water-positive, and zero-waste company that protects ecosystems by 2030.
