Oracle and Claro Open First Public Cloud Region in Colombia to Boost Digital Transformation and Cloud Adoption
Oracle, in partnership with Claro, announced the launch of the Oracle Cloud Region in Colombia, marking the country's first major public cloud region. Hosted in Claro's data center in Bogotá, this collaboration makes Claro the first telecommunications operator in Colombia to offer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services. The new Oracle Cloud Bogotá Region, Oracle's 47th public cloud region, provides access to over 100 OCI services and cloud applications, including Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution. This initiative aims to accelerate cloud adoption, support organizational modernization, and foster growth within Colombia's competitive business landscape. Carlos Zenteno, president of Claro Colombia, highlighted the significance of this milestone for Colombia's technological evolution, emphasizing its potential to boost digital transformation for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises which constitute 90% of the country's businesses. The region is expected to offer low latency and high availability cloud services not only to Colombia but also to neighboring countries like Peru, Ecuador, and Panama. The Colombian government supports this project, viewing it as a catalyst for economic and social benefits, including the generation of new opportunities and the training of specialized digital talent. Oracle's commitment to sustainability is evident in its goal to power all Oracle Cloud Regions with 100% renewable energy by 2025, including the Bogotá region. Oracle and its partners have also recycled 99.7% of retired hardware in FY’23, further emphasizing its dedication to sustainable operations.
