AWS Announces New Infrastructure Region in Mexico with $5 Billion Investment by Early 2025
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to launch a new infrastructure region in Mexico by early 2025, aiming to support developers, startups, entrepreneurs, enterprises, and organizations in government, education, and nonprofit sectors. This AWS Mexico (Central) Region will enable customers to run workloads and store content securely within Mexico, enhancing service to end users with lower latency. AWS's commitment to Latin America is underscored by its plan to invest over $5 billion (approximately MXN $85 billion) in Mexico over the next 15 years. The new region, consisting of three Availability Zones at launch, will join AWS's global network, which includes 105 Availability Zones across 33 geographic regions. Additionally, AWS has plans for 15 more Availability Zones and five more regions in Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Thailand, and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. This expansion is part of AWS's ongoing investment in Mexico, aiming to fuel the country's digital transformation and economic growth by leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.
