Teraco, a Digital Realty Company and Africa's largest interconnection hub and vendor-neutral data center provider, announced on February 6, 2024, that it will offer connectivity directly through Google Cloud Interconnect at its Isando Campus to the Google Cloud Johannesburg region. This follows Google's recent launch of the Google Cloud region in Johannesburg, its first on the African continent. Google Cloud Interconnect provides low-latency, high-availability connections for reliable data transfer between clients' on-premises networks and the Google network. As a result, traffic does not traverse the public internet, ensuring more reliable and consistent cloud networking services, low-latency connections, fewer points of failure, scaled connection capacity, increased reliability, and improved security. Michele McCann, Head of Platforms at Teraco, stated that the launch of Google Cloud in Africa is a crucial milestone in their digital transformation journey.
