AWS Launches New Canada West (Calgary) Region, Expanding Infrastructure and Innovation in Western Canada
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of its second infrastructure region in Canada, the AWS Canada West (Calgary) Region, marking AWS as the first major cloud services provider to establish an infrastructure region in Western Canada. This new region, consisting of three Availability Zones, aims to provide customers with enhanced options for running applications with greater resilience, availability, and lower latency, while securely storing data within Canada. AWS's expansion is expected to invest an estimated $17.9 billion (approximately CA $24.8 billion) in its Canadian infrastructure through 2037, supporting an average of more than 9,300 full-time equivalent jobs annually. The AWS Canada West (Calgary) Region, along with the existing AWS Canada (Central) Region in Quebec, will offer advanced technologies such as data analytics, security, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to drive innovation across various sectors. Active customers in Canada include notable organizations and enterprises across different industries. With this launch, AWS now operates 105 Availability Zones across 33 geographic regions globally, with plans to expand further.
