November 15, 2023
On November 15, 2023, in San Francisco, the Government of Malaysia and Google announced a strategic partnership to foster inclusive growth and enhance Malaysia's digital competitiveness. This collaboration focuses on skilling programs, digital infrastructure investment, responsible AI innovation, and cloud-first policies, aligning with Malaysia's MADANI Economy Framework and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. Google's commitment builds on its 12-year investment history in Malaysia, which supported over 47,900 jobs and generated an estimated US$2.8 billion in economic benefits in 2022 alone. The partnership aims to accelerate local innovation and talent development in AI, with Google assisting Malaysian organizations in using AI and Google Cloud technologies for economic growth and public good. Additionally, the initiative includes providing no-cost digital skilling opportunities to 300,000 Malaysians by 2026 through the Go Cloud program, offering courses in generative AI, data analytics, and cloud-based productivity tools. Google is also exploring the potential establishment of a Google data center in Malaysia to support local and regional business expansion, in line with the NIMP 2030's objectives. Joint AI launchpad initiatives between the Government and Google Cloud will focus on creating jobs, enhancing public service delivery, and helping local companies reach global markets, with priority areas including digital government services, financial inclusion, healthcare, education, and Industry 4.0 advancements.
