Google Announces $2 Billion Investment for First Data Center and Google Cloud Region in Malaysia
Google announced on May 30, 2024, a $2 billion investment in Malaysia, which includes the development of its first Google data center and Google Cloud region in the country. The investment, located in Sime Darby Property's Elmina Business Park in Greater Kuala Lumpur, is expected to support more than $3.2 billion in economic impact and 26,500 jobs by 2030. The data center will power Google's digital services like Search, Maps, and Workspace, and will enable Google to deliver AI benefits to users and customers across Malaysia. The Google Cloud region will provide high-performance, low-latency services to enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations while maintaining high security, data residency, and compliance standards. Google is also launching two programs, Gemini Academy and Experience AI, to foster AI literacy among students and educators in Malaysia.
