Google Begins Construction on First Data Center and Cloud Region in Malaysia with $2 Billion Investment
On October 1, 2024, Google began construction on its first data center and cloud region in Malaysia, located in Elmina Business Park, Selangor. This $2 billion investment is expected to support over $3.2 billion in economic impact and create 26,500 jobs by 2030. The new infrastructure will cater to the increasing demand for Google Cloud capabilities, AI innovations, and other digital products and services in Malaysia. Alongside this, Google also announced local digital skilling and sustainability partnerships aimed at creating inclusive growth opportunities for the Malaysian people and businesses. The construction began with a ceremony at the inaugural "Mantap Malaysia Bersama AI," a Google for Malaysia event.
