On June 10, 2024, Microsoft announced its largest single investment in Sweden, planning to invest 33.7 billion kronor ($3.2B) over two years in cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI). This investment includes a commitment to enhance the AI skills of 250,000 people, aiming to accelerate Sweden's adoption of AI and boost the country's long-term competitiveness. Microsoft will expand its cloud and AI infrastructure and deploy 20,000 advanced GPUs to its existing data centers in Sandviken, Gävle, and Staffanstorp. This investment aligns with the Swedish government's focus on innovation, competitiveness, and resilience in the AI era. Microsoft's education initiative aims to address the urgent need for AI skills enhancement in Sweden, which currently has the world's third-largest demand for AI skills. Microsoft plans to provide AI skills training to 250,000 people over three years.
