Microsoft is partnering with district heating organization VEKS and HTF to repurpose excess heat from its datacenter in Høje-Taastrup, Denmark, to warm the local community. The datacenter, which is under construction, will produce enough heat to warm around 6,000 local homes. VEKS, which oversees the production, transmission, and distribution of district heating around Copenhagen, will harness this surplus heat to support community heat distribution. As part of Microsoft's commitment to 100% renewable energy operation by 2025, this initiative marks a significant step towards environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The surplus heat will be captured and redirected to the local district heating network, with the first deliveries expected to reach residents during the 2025–2026 heating season.
