NTT DATA and INX-ZA Launch Johannesburg Internet Exchange Node in JOH1 Data Center
On September 19, 2024, NTT DATA and INX-ZA announced the launch of the Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX) node within NTT’s Johannesburg 1 (JOH1) Data Center. The JOH1 data center is NTT’s largest facility in Africa, offering 6,200m2 of server space and 12MW IT critical load. The facility is located in Samrand and is designed to host primary, secondary, or disaster recovery IT infrastructure. JINX, Africa’s oldest internet exchange point (IXP), enables over 350 peers to exchange traffic directly, optimizing data flow and reducing costs for network operators. The integration of JINX within the JOH1 facility is part of NTT DATA's investment in Africa’s growth prospects and is expected to support the digital boom in the region, with an estimated 615 million users in sub-Saharan Africa subscribing to mobile services by 2025.
