OVHcloud Introduces Carbon Calculator for IaaS Customers, Strengthening Sustainability Commitment, September 14th, 2023

September 14, 2023

OVHcloud, a leading European cloud provider, launched a carbon calculator for its IaaS customers, enabling them to receive monthly reports on their cloud-related carbon emissions. Developed over eight months in collaboration with Sopra Steria and audited by the independent consulting firm IJO, this tool aims to enhance transparency and promote responsible IT usage by providing a comprehensive view of a customer's cloud infrastructure carbon footprint. The calculator, which is accessible from the OVHcloud customer panel, considers various factors including server electrical consumption, cooling, networking equipment, and the lifecycle impact of components from manufacturing to end-of-life. It also adjusts calculations based on the local power mix of the server's location, offering a more accurate carbon footprint estimate. This initiative is part of OVHcloud's long-standing commitment to sustainability, highlighted by its efficient watercooling technology and a global average PUE of 1.28, significantly lower than the industry average. The carbon calculator, now available worldwide except in the USA, is free for BareMetal product line customers and will soon be available for Hosted Private Cloud customers.
