AirTrunk, CLP Power and Microsoft Announce Second Collaboration for 200MW Renewable Energy Project in Hong Kong, April 2024

April 22, 2024
On April 22, 2024, AirTrunk, a hyperscale data centre specialist in Asia-Pacific & Japan, and CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, a major power utility in Hong Kong, announced their second collaboration with Microsoft. This partnership aims to support Microsoft's goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2025. The renewable energy will be generated from over 200 megawatts (MW) of local solar sites across 17,000 locations in the New Territories of Hong Kong. This is the largest site-specific renewable energy certificate (REC) procurement in Hong Kong. The collaboration follows a previous agreement that matches Microsoft’s data centre electricity consumption in Hong Kong with local renewable energy from the West New Territories Landfill Gas Power Generation Units of CLP Power.
